The Dance Battle Arena (DBA) has taken a step to rise above marginalization and promote the art of dance not just as entertainment but a serious art sport.
DBA is scheduled to host this Saturday the “Rep Your Style” Dance Battle, expected to bring together different dancers with each bringing different dance styles on board.
In an Interview with Lusaka Star, DBA Founder Musonda Kelvin Chongo said the battles will serve to build a networking connection and serve a ground for exposure .
“ Battles as this helps dancers improve each time they battle, even though we only have one winner, it’s not always about winning but improving yourself as a dancer,” said Chongo.
Chongo however called for the value of dance as an art to be embraced as it goes hand in hand with music as a sport as well other artistic skills that are recognized.
“ Now dance can be recognized as an art and sport that can be taken seriously as The Zambia DanceSport Federation an organization recognizes competitive dance as a sport as it has the same characteristics among them being competition, fair judgment and sportsmanship,” he said.
Chongo added that Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts should look into supporting such activities as they contribute to reduce in substance abuse and other bad vices among the youth and promotes mental and physical well being.
