Lusaka’s Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC), a sports and youth development facility, has been credited by Zambia Hockey for nurturing talent and helping young people avoid engaging in illicit activities.
Zambia Men’s Hockey Team Coach, Floyd Chomba stated that the Centre treats hockey as a sport that has helped many children stay away from early marriages, alcohol and drug abuse.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, Chomba said he sees great potential and opportunities in the sport of hockey.
“Most of the players come from communities we have children from Marapodi, Mandevu, Matero, as well as kids from private schools who come to play hockey at this facility,” Mr. Chomba added.
“Currently, we are trying to elevate our players so they can start making a living out of hockey.”
Zambia Hockey Association holds a Premier League for teams that emerged victorious last year, consisting of the top four women’s and men’s clubs.
