NEW MARKET COMING FOR VEGETABLE TRADERS – UNZASU

University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) has described as cruel the manner in which the university’s security treated vegetable sellers on campus last week.

And UNZASU Minister of Commerce and Trade-elect Clement Mwakamui has revealed that the union will soon create a vegetable market to accommodate all the vegetable sellers that come on campus in order to avoid such situations.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, Mr Mwakamui said it is unfortunate that the security decided to drive out the marketeers in a brutal manner, as well as confiscate their goods.

“Am just happy that the monks came to the marketeers aid and helped them get their goods back” Mr. Mwakamui said

He added that it is regretful that security could think of chasing people who are just trying to make an honest living while they fail to deal with the thieves that break into campus.

“Chasing and confiscating their goods is not a solution to this problem but instead create a selling point so that they can trade freely,” he said.

And the marketers have since expressed happiness at the vegetable market to be constructed soon
