UPND UNHAPPY AT 55

United Party for National Development (UPND) says Zambia has failed to develop after 55 years of independence.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said Zambia was supposed to have attained a status of a developed country a long time ago.

Mr. Kakoma stated that most of the countries that got independence during the same period with Zambia are far more developed.

He further added that the country has witnessed high levels of unemployment among the youths and the rise of hunger situation since independence.

Meanwhile, Kakoma said that Zambia does not have a strong Manufacturing phase which can manufacture Products such as motor vehicles and computers among others.

“Zambian people are still struggling to enjoy their human rights and political freedoms as it can be seen from high levels of political violence and intolerance around the country” Kakoma said.

The UPND spokesperson said that the country cannot be talking about freedom when there is no freedom of expression and association that has been taken away by the Patriotic Front (PF)in the 5 years that it has governed.

“UPND member Weyi Makayi has been in police custody for a month without a charge and parties are unable to hold rallies and indoor meetings freely” he added.

He however stated that freedom should not be enjoyed only by a few individuals belonging to a named party but it should be a national right for every Zambians.

Meanwhile, Kakoma adds that the PF government did not invite the UPND party to this year’s independence celebration that was held today the 24th of October, 2019.
