Mufulira Wanderers prepares for 2023/24 MTN Super League

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers Football Club (MMW FC) coach, Harrison Tembo, has announced that the club has already commenced preparations for the upcoming 2023/24 MTN Super League season.

The team recently secured promotion from the National League to the highly competitive MTN/FAZ Super League.

Speaking exclusively to Lusaka Star in an interview, Coach Tembo shared his plans for the upcoming season.

“We need to bring in two or three experienced players who can guide and assist the younger members of our team in the super league. As you might be aware, we maintained consistent performance in the top four of the National League,” he explained.

Coach Tembo emphasized the importance of instilling courage in his players as they transition to the top-flight football of Zambia.

He aims to maintain the club’s position in the league for the next season. Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude to the club management, sponsors, and fans for their unwavering support throughout the season.

MMW FC President, George Katongo, acknowledged the tough competition that awaits the team in the Super League next season.

“We must prepare our players maturely and ensure they possess a high level of competitiveness. The league we were previously in was the most difficult one, but we managed to overcome the challenges,” President Katongo affirmed.

He further emphasized that the club would focus on all areas, including tactics, team depth, and endurance, to be fully prepared for the league.

Soccer Analyst, Nsama Chisupa, recognized the immense fan base and legacy of the Mufulira Wanderers, commonly known as the legendary cup fighters.
Chisupa called upon the club management to capitalize on this fan support and find ways to raise funds.

“The fans and the players played a crucial role in Wanderers’ return to the league, and now they will be showcasing their skills on higher platforms, gaining valuable exposure,” Chisupa remarked.

The club has returned to the league for the first time since 2020 after facing relegation during the 2019/2020 season due to the premature end caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
