there is also …need to encourage handball in rural areas so that new talents could be discovered-Banda

Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) president Bwalya Banda has appealed to the Government to promote the sporting activity in rural areas.

Mr. Banda said Government should set up deliberate strategies that could see the growth of handball as a sport in the country.

He said there is also need to encourage handball in rural areas so that new talents could be discovered.

“Handball should not be just played in Lusaka and Ndola; it should also be played in areas like Mongu, Solwezi and Mbala to name a few. This will then help us discover new and quality talents that are needed for the Handball National team.” Mr Banda said.

He disclosed that Handball is one of the fastest growing indoor sporting activity in Zambia and an Olympic sport played world over and thus, its needs to be encouraged nationwide.

Mr. Banda also called on the corporate world to consider supporting and honouring the players like Ruth Mbewe who was voted best player in the whole Southern region last year at the Zone Six Games hosted in the country.

“Imagine having a best player in the whole Southern region. That is a big achievement,” Mr. Banda said.

He added that the players are young and have potential to bring more glory to the nation and it is only through such recognition that players will be motivated to work hard.
