Police detains Madalitso Phiri(Mwana wamukomboni)

A Lusaka-based music artist, Madalisto Phiri popularly known as “Mwana wamu komboni,” has been arrested and charged with multiple traffic offences following a late-night road accident involving a Zambia Police Service motorbike.

The incident occurred around 23:00 hours on Monday, April 27, 2026, along Mosi-oa-Tunya Road near a Puma Filling Station.

According to a press statement ,Phiri, 42, of Chalala, was driving a Nissan Mitsuoka when he allegedly cut in front of an oncoming police motorbike, causing a collision.

Despite escaping unhurt, the artist now faces five charges, including dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He has also been charged for operating a motor vehicle without a valid road licence, fitness certificate, and third-party insurance.

Meanwhile the police motorbike rider, Inspector Kwibisa Mbuye, 39, sustained slight injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Maina Soko Military Hospital.

The motorbike suffered extensive damage to its front end.

Phiri’s vehicle has since been impounded awaiting further examination, and he is expected to appear in court soon.

And Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the development, adding that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
