A Lusaka based Economist has noted that Mobile money payments on toll gates is a post transformation which will be able to castigate good benefits.
Speaking in an interview with lusaka star,Kelvin Chisanga said that the initiative reduces the dependence on physical cash handling which makes it more traceable.
“The success depends on system liability, network and public trust in digital platforms,”Mr. Chisanga said.
“Mobile money payments are not just a convenience, they are a structure towards digitalization of zambia’s economy improving physical transparency and fostering financial inclusion.”
He said mobile payments at toll gates will strengthen revenue collection efficiency and minimize the aspect of financial leakage that often associates with cash handling.”
Mr. Chisanga added that this will promote financial inclusion especially for motorists who are already integrated into platforms like MTN, Airtel and Zamtel mobile money.
Meanwhile a Motorist Opord Hatembo noted that mobile money payments are more convenient and secure compared to cash payments.
“In a situation where the driver has cash exceeding the amount to be paid, the driver will be made to wait for change which I find very inconveniencing, Hatembo said.”
He added that with the use of mobile money to pay toll fees one is able to pay the exact amount that is required.
