The Electoral Commission has upheld an appeal lodged by Amos Mwale, popularly known as “Mulla One,” against his earlier disqualification from the ongoing electoral process, clearing the way for his candidature to proceed.
In a statement, the Commission Chairperson, Webby Mwape, confirmed that the Commission had received and reviewed Mwale’s appeal before seeking clarification from the Dean of Students’ Office regarding a letter the candidate claimed to have submitted as part of his nomination requirements.
According to the Commission, the Dean of Students’ Office verified that Amos Mwale had indeed submitted the letter in question. The confirmation prompted the Commission to reconsider its earlier decision.
“Following verification from the Dean of Students’ Office and further consideration of the matter, the Electoral Commission has resolved to uphold the appeal,” Mwape said.
As a result, the Commission announced that Mwale’s nomination has now been deemed successful, allowing him to continue participating in the electoral process in accordance with the applicable electoral procedures and regulations.
