The Zambia Hockey Women’s National Team is in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers, which will take place in Pretoria, South Africa.
The games will run from October 29 to November 5, 2023.
Speaking to the Lusaka Star, National team Coach Floyd Chomba said he is using the upcoming international friendly matches against Zimbabwe to ensure the team is ready for the Olympics qualifiers in South Africa.
“Looking at what we have achieved in the past years, we have been to the Africa Cup, and now we are looking forward to the Olympic qualifiers.”
Mr. Chomba expressed his confidence in the players, highlighting that they will be able to compete and fight for the top position at the Olympics despite having one of their players unavailable due to injury.
“Margret Muthali has been ruled out of the international friendly matches against Zimbabwe due to injury, but she will be available for the qualifiers,” Mr. Chomba said.
He further called on the stakeholders to come on board and help the team financially in order to supplement the government’s effort.
Meanwhile, Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) General Secretary Elvis Bwalya said the association will also put in place logistics for the team ahead of the international friendly matches against Zimbabwe.
“The final touches have been done, and the team is ready for the match,” he said.
Zambia is scheduled to play against Zimbabwe in a friendly match,which will run from August 11 to 132023 at St. John’s Astro Turf in Harare, Zimbabwe.
