ALLIANCE for Sustainable Development (ASD) has together with Ox Farm Zambia and Village Water embarked on a project to sensitize residents of Chawama and George compound on proper management of solid waste in helping improve water sanitation. In an interview with the Lusaka star, ASD executive director Brenda Hanampoto said the project was aimed at creating awareness on how to manage solid waste. “We basically want to create awareness on how to manage and dispose of solid waste in a proper way,” she explained.
Marketeers at Mwasauka market in Garden compound have expressed concern over the uncollected garbage by Lusaka City Council (LCC) despite signing a contract for garbage collection. Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, Mwasauka market chairman Lyford Banda said the mountainous garbage which lies at the exit of the market is a health hazard to the community.
THE Livingstone City Council (LCC) with the help of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has procured four self-tipping tractors meant to enhance waste management in the city. Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, LCC Public Relations Manager Emmauel Sikanyika said LCC has had a challenge in the past in terms of waste management and that the garbage trucks that were in use at the present were aging and had outlived their usefulness.
