THE Kalingalinga sanitation and marketing project aimed at improving sanitation and hygiene services in the area is set to commence phase two of the project. The project which was launched last year is being spearheaded by the Lusaka water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) sanitation programme is set to begin the phase two installation of modern flushable toilets in Kalingalinga ward 21 this week.

THE Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) is in the process of implementing the ‘water supply and sanitation’ project in Lusaka, says LWSC public relations manager Topsy Sikalinda. Mr. Sikalinda confirmed this development in a walking interview with the Lusaka Star. He said the project is meant to improve water supply and sanitation in some parts of Lusaka.

THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has expressed confidence that Lusaka will maintain a cholera-free record this year as the local authority has put in place deliberate sanitation measures that will prevent the possibility of any cholera outbreak.   Last year, Lusaka province did not record any cholera case during the rainy season despite floods that hit the city.

University of Zambia Anti-Drug Abuse Activist has expressed concerns over the increased levels of drug abuse and trafficking among  youths in the country. ALLIANCE for Sustainable Development (ASD) has together with Ox Farm Zambia and Village Water embarked on a project to sensitize residents of Chawama and George compound on proper management of solid waste in helping improve water sanitation. In an interview with the Lusaka star, ASD executive director Brenda Hanampoto said the project was aimed at creating awareness on how to manage solid waste. “We basically want to create awareness on how to manage and dispose of solid waste in a proper way,” she explained.
