University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) President Martin Muluya has charged that government has failed to effectively run public tertiary learning institutions. Mr. Muluya said the ministry of education has failed to deliver the needs of students from various public learning institutions.
THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has donated equipment and a brand new Toyota land cruiser to the University of Zambia (UNZA). The equipment worth K5.2 million was donated to the school of engineering specifically for the enhancement of the department of environmental and civil engineering. Speaking at the handover ceremony at the UNZA Senate Chamber yesterday, RDA chairperson Samuel Mukupa said the equipment was procured through a loan from the International Development Association of the World Bank.
THE Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Childhood has launched the University of Zambia (UNZA) Graduate School of Business. Minster of Education Michael Kaingu said despite UNZA’s contribution towards training professionals in business courses been limited, he is hopeful that the graduate school will place UNZA in the spotlight in terms of providing quality education in business. Dr. Kaingu said this in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Education deputy minister Sydney Mushanga.
THE University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) has expressed disappointment over the University of Zambia (UNZA) Senate decision to postpone the opening date of UNZA Ridgway Campus. UNZA Senate held a special meeting on August 27th 2015, to discuss the current situation obtaining at the institution of higher learning in view of the non-release of results by members of the University of Zambia Lecturers and Researcher’s Union (UNZALARU).
THE Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education has constituted a caretaker council of the University of Zambia (UNZA) to run the affairs of the institution until a permanent council is appointed. Education Minister Michael L. Kaingu announced the development at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday. Dr. Kaingu said the new caretaker committee will serve for the period until the substantive council of the University is appointed by his ministry in accordance with the Higher Education Act No 4 of 2013.
STUDENTS at the University of Zambia (UNZA) have bemoaned the continued poor sanitation at the institution. A check around campus by the Lusaka Star revealed that most shower rooms in student hostels such as Kafue hostels for females were blocked leading to excessive flooding. A student at the institution Nicole Muyunda expressed displeasure over the living conditions that students were being subjected to.
A University of Zambia (UNZA) lecturer has urged graduating students to consider venturing into entrepreneurship upon graduating from the institution. In an interview with the Lusaka star, Department of Development Studies lecturer McDonald Chanda observed that students should aim at creating employment and become their own bosses rather than aiming to graduate and work for someone.
In line with the University of Zambia (UNZA) core values of promoting green environment the management has embarked on a keep UNZA clean Friday morning programme. The Keep UNZA Clean Campaign committee (KUCC) has resolved that, every Friday staff from each unit should clean their surrounding from 08:00 hours to 09:00 hours.
THE University Of Zambia School Of Engineering has awarded 17 students for their best academic performance. Speaking at the awards ceremony at the School of Engineering’s Annex building, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Bizeck Phiri said UNZA is committed to providing educational opportunities to talented students from a range of backgrounds and delivering research with a practical benefit to society.
