7NDP IMPLEMENTATION NOT A SOLE DUTY OF GOVERNMENT-DR. MSISKA

GOVERNMENT says it not its exclusive duty to ensure that the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) becomes a success.

Secretary to the Cabinet Dr. Roland Msiska said it was not entirely the duty of government to ensure that the 7NDP succeeded.

Dr. Msiska noted that other stakeholders such as the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the private sector should also play a role.

“Development partners such as the CSOs and the private sector should come forward to work with the government to ensure that no one is left behind,” Dr. Msiska said.

He said there was progress being achieved by both government and other stakeholders in the implementation process of the 7NDP.

Dr. Msiska however warned that there was need to have a sense of ownership during the the process.

The Secretary to Cabinet said Zambians needed to stand and unite in order to support the process.

He further directed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Development Planning to ensure that all developmental planning activities were in line with the 7NDP.

Dr. Msiska was speaking during the official opening of the National Development Coordinating Committee (NDCC) meeting in Lusaka.

Earlier on, Minister of Finance Permanent secretary Dr. Mulenga Pamu said the country will close the year with a single inflation digit.

Dr. Pamu said this was as a result of an increase in the Economic growth the country experienced in the third quarter of the fiscal year.

“Economic growth rose from 2.9 per cent in the first quarter to 3.9 per cent in the third quarter,” he said.

He however said the country only had about K1.7 billion in reserve, representing a decline from K1.8 billion recorded at the end of the second quarter.
