LEAGUE champions Zesco United remained on course of defending the title they won last season after they defeated Konkola Blades 1 – 0 in a week 22 match played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday. Kenyan defender David Owino popped up to head home a free kick driven into the area by Justin Zulu following a foul on Mwape Mwelwa by Godfrey Chibanga. The victory meant that Zesco United moved to 52 points and maintained a seven point lead from second placed Power Dynamos.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Barclays Bank have launched the K2.2 Million Barclays Cup that will see defending Champions Zesco United face division one group leaders Kabwe Warriors in what is expected to be an exciting encounter. The 2015 Barclays Cup will have some added attraction after Lumwana Radiants qualified for this year’s tournament. THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is saddened by the ferocious behaviour exhibited by Mighty Mufulira Wonderers’ fans that led to the abandonment of Mighty’s home game against Zesco United. And FAZ says disciplinary measures against Mighty Mufulira Wonderers will only be decided by FAZ disciplinary committee. This comes after Mighty Mufulira Wanderers’ home game against Zesco United was on Saturday abandoned at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira.
