THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has donated equipment and a brand new Toyota land cruiser to the University of Zambia (UNZA). The equipment worth K5.2 million was donated to the school of engineering specifically for the enhancement of the department of environmental and civil engineering. Speaking at the handover ceremony at the UNZA Senate Chamber yesterday, RDA chairperson Samuel Mukupa said the equipment was procured through a loan from the International Development Association of the World Bank.

PROFESSIONAL Life Assurance Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zambian Association of Musicians (ZAM) aimed at providing a ‘life insurance cover’ to ZAM members. The ‘Celebrity Life Plan,’ as it is called, shall pay out an agreed benefit in the event of death during the policy year. ZAM members will be covered through this plan as a value addition for being affiliates of ZAM.

THE Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication has launched the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT). Zambia Charter of Logistics and Transport president Phidelia Mwaba explained that the act is aimed at regulating professionalism amongst all organizations and individuals that are engaged in transport and logistic activities. Speaking during the launch yesterday, Mrs. Mwaba said the act will promote the country’s transportation industry despite it being specialised.

Relativity Media filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday and will now sell its TV and film arms. However, it said it would go ahead with the releases of Kristen Wiig's Masterminds and Halle Berry's Kidnap.

Kabwe Warriors supporters are confident their team will win back promotion to the MTN-FAZ Super League. The Warriors are at the top 0f the FAZ Division One South table with 44 points and six clear of second placed Lusaka Tigers prior to the weekend games. Kabwe Warriors fan Michael Chishimba said he was sure the team would bounce back to the elite league looking at the rate it was progressing in its quest to win promotion. Mr Chishimba said the team under Coach Mohammed Fathy has improved enormously.

Over 300, 000 Zambians have been left vulnerable to food insecurity because of last season’s partial drought, a government report says. The government through the office of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit undertook a vulnerability assessment study whose report also suggests among others measures such as food relief distribution and diversified food crop cultivation as credible measures to assist those in need.

The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has called on local authorities to monitor and strengthen the registration system of churches to avoid the increased number of ‘fake pastors’.   CCZ secretary general Rev. Suzanne Matale told the Lusaka Star in an interview that there was need for the councils to critically assess people’s intentions of setting up churches.
