MMD should not accuse PF of any criminal acts regarding their missing Solwezi West candidate – Chama »
THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has quashed allegations by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) that their Solwezi West parliamentary by-election candidate has gone into hiding for fear of being abducted by PF members. PF secretary general Davies Chama urged the MMD not to accuse the PF of any criminal acts regarding their candidate adding that the MMD had no candidate in Solwezi West. Mr. Chama explained that the PF believed in clean and violence free politics.
TRANSPARENCY International Zambia (TIZ) has condemned the continued release and pardoning of former ministers from Zambian prisons. Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, TIZ director Goodwill Lungu said TIZ had received with great dismay the release of former labour minister Austin Liato. He said government’s tendency of pardoning convicted former ministers serving prison sentences on the context of being sick is a form of political manipulation and an obstruction of justice.
SOME opposition political parties have called on all political players to refrain from violence and observe peace in the forthcoming Lubasenshi and Solwezi West by-elections. Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, Green Party secretary general Gideon Muzyamba said political violence should be condemned in the strongest sense as it worked against the principle of political democracy.
Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc and the Mwekera National Aquaculture Research and Development Centre (NARDC) have restocked the Kafue river with 20, 000 fingerlings to replenish depleted stocks. KCM Executive Director, David Ng’andu says the company had between 2008 and this year restocked rivers on the Copperbelt with over 80, 000 fingerlings.
KITWE Central Hospital Consultant Gynecologist, Tashbekov Djuraber has urged expecting mothers to refrain from consuming soil in order to prevent delivery related complications. Dr. Tashbekov said in an interview that pregnant women who practice geophagy (eating of dirt) should stop because some soil types contain unhealthy material that have no nutritional benefits thereby putting the lives of both the mother and the unborn baby at risk.
