AIRTEL Zambia will spend about $ 5, 000 USD on a new corporate social responsibility programme aimed at helping vulnerable communities in society. Speaking to the Lusaka Star in an interview at the ongoing 89th Agriculture and Commercial Show, Airtel Zambia head of corporate communications and government relations Yoyo Kambikambi said the corporation is supplementing government’s effort to bring about development and bettering the lives of Zambians.

LUSAKA’S Town Centre market traders have complained about the poor sanitation conditions they are subjected to work under due to the ever increasing amount of uncollected garbage by the Lusaka City Council (LCC). The traders have expressed fear that the uncollected heaps of garbage at the market could lead to the outbreak of water borne diseases such as cholera and dysentery.

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has introduced revenue reforms following governments directive to all councils to minimise human contact in revenue mobilisation.   The directive was issued through the ministry of Local Government and housing.   In an interview with Lusaka star, LCC acting public relations manager Mulunda Habeenzusaid the move was aimed at promoting efficiency and effective management of revenue.

TRADERS at Mtendere Khazimai Market have bemoaned the inadequate collection of garbage at the market by the Lusaka city council (LCC). But LCC acting public relations manager Habenzu Mulunda urged the traders to pay more money if they  wanted frequent collection of garbage.  In an interview with the Lusaka star, a charcoal trader Boyd Chibwe at the market said the garbage which was dumped next to his stand produced a bad smell and was a health risk.

THE University of Zambia (UNZA) management has attributed the accumulation of garbage and litter at UNZA’s Goma fields to overpopulation of students.   UNZA Public Relations Officer Stanslous Chewe told the Lusaka Star in an interview that mishandling of garbage by garbage collectors and scavengers at the Goma Fields was a health hazard that posed a huge challenge on UNZA Management.
