PATRIOTIC Front (PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has challenged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate corruption allegations labelled against government in a news article carried by the Post Newspaper. Speaking in a telephone interview with the Lusaka Star, Mrs. Phiri urged the Commission to accurately and thoroughly investigate the allegations made by Post Newspaper reporter Mukosha Funga that government officials attempted to bribe her in disclosing who gives her classified documents.

THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has quashed allegations by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) that their Solwezi West parliamentary by-election candidate has gone into hiding for fear of being abducted by PF members. PF secretary general Davies Chama urged the MMD not to accuse the PF of any criminal acts regarding their candidate adding that the MMD had no candidate in Solwezi West. Mr. Chama explained that the PF believed in clean and violence free politics.

TRANSPARENCY International Zambia (TIZ) has condemned the continued release and pardoning of former ministers from Zambian prisons. Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, TIZ director Goodwill Lungu said TIZ had received with great dismay the release of former labour minister Austin Liato. He said government’s tendency of pardoning convicted former ministers serving prison sentences on the context of being sick is a form of political manipulation and an obstruction of justice.

ZAMBIA has seen this year seen an increase in financial inclusion among the adult population, the 2015 Finscope Survey has recorded. Speaking when he presented the findings during a one day e-money card and payments summit, Bank of Zambia (BoZ) deputy governor Bwalya Ng’andu, revealed that financial inclusion among the adult population had increased from 37.3 percent in 2009 to 59.3 percent this year.

Zambia Charter of Logistics and Transport president Phidelia Mwaba explained that the act is aimed at regulating professionalism amongst all organizations and individuals that are engaged in transport and logistic activities. A health research on unsafe abortion conducted by the University of Zambia (UNZA) in collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) shows that to treat a case of unsafe abortion costs the country an estimated US$13.43. The Health System Costs of Unsafe and Safe Abortion research results show that the Zambian health system would save up to US$611,046 per year if each woman treated for a complication of unsafe abortion had instead accessed safe termination services.

THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABs) has sold a total of 96 standards to various companies between April and June 2015 for various products. This indicates an increase in the number of standards sold in this period compared to the standard sold between January and March which was 68. ZABS attributed this increase in sells to improved communication with stake holders and an increase in awareness programs that the agency has particularly conducted for Micro Small to Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
