THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) hopes for more exciting and mouth-watering football action in the forthcoming 2016 MTN/FAZ Super League. FAZ spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe told the Lusaka Star that the 2016 MTN Super League will be competitive, owing to the fact that the number of teams participating in the league had recently been increased from 16 to 18.
Lusaka Sharks and D.E Stars Hockey clubs are set to represent Zambia in the 2015 Africa Cup of Club Championships slated for 12th December, 2015 at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC). In an interview with the Lusaka star, Hockey Association National Coordinator Thomas Mumba said eight female and 10 male teams from seven African countries will be participating during the prestigious tourney.
THE Zambia Army Judo club has emerged as winners at the just ended 2015 Japanese Ambassador Judo Championship at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) bagging 64 points followed by runners up Zambia police with 34 points and the Zambia National Service with 24 points. The tournament which took place this month attracted ten clubs from across the country with individual events including pre-cadets ranging from 7 to 12 years, cadets from 13 to 16 years, juniors from 17 to 19 years and the seniors above 20 years old.
Collins Mbesuma marked his return to the national side with a winning goal as Zambia defeated Kenya 2-1 in a Group E match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers played at Nyayo National Stadium. The veteran forward struck three minutes before the interval after earlier setting up strike partner Winston Kalengo to cancel out Micheal Olunga’s 13th minute opener.
LEAGUE champions Zesco United remained on course of defending the title they won last season after they defeated Konkola Blades 1 – 0 in a week 22 match played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday. Kenyan defender David Owino popped up to head home a free kick driven into the area by Justin Zulu following a foul on Mwape Mwelwa by Godfrey Chibanga. The victory meant that Zesco United moved to 52 points and maintained a seven point lead from second placed Power Dynamos.
