Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia, Home Affairs Minister Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula said Chinese industries had not only supported the mining industry in Zambia but also extended their valued activities in infrastructure development, water conservation projects and many other economic projects.

He observed that Zambians had a lot to learn from Chinese people as China has become a symbol of success adding that the policy of economic modernisation reforms in conjunction with its enormous economic potential and long term high economic growth rate has placed China in a position to become the world’s leading economic giant.

“The relations between the two countries have a long history of consistency in extensive partnering in trade, Investment, Infrastructure development, technical assistance, education and training” Dr. Simbyakula said.

And the Home Affairs Minister revealed that the world has become a one market place where learning each other’s language and culture was imperative for doing business.

He added that the Mulungushi University was offering Chinese language at degree level.

And speaking at the same function, Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao hoped that the relation would become stronger, looking at what the two countries had achieved together in the last 50 years.

“If in the past 50 years we have made fruitful results, how about the next 50 years” Dr. Yuanchao said.

Dr. Yuanchao revealed that the Confucius Institute Project was the first to be aided by the Chinese government hoping that it would become another monument symbolising culture ties between the two countries and encourage further culutural exchanges.

He reminded the Chinese workers working at the site of the great responsibility and honour they had while undertaking the works at the construction site.

“You have a great responsibility and honour. I hope you will do  a great job so that the project will show the image and level of China. I hope this project will be a high quality project and a clean project” Dr. Yuanchao said.
