UNZASU executive want their president and SG gone

Some University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) members have called for the immediate suspension or removal of their president and secretary general. SOME University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) executive members have called for the immediate suspension or removal of their president Steven Kyengula and UNZASU Secretary General Best Malambo.

Nine of the  executive members  who signed a petition demanding for this action, have  accused  the president and the  Secretary General of fraudulently preparing minutes purpoting to have resulted out of an UNZASU executive meeting when in fact no such meeting took place.

"The said minutes authorised the release of an advance payment of ZMW 102, 000.00 towards the rehabilitation of Lecture Theater One  and Two," they stated.

They said this was contrary to rule number  35 of UNZA's rules and regulations which prohibits students from engaging in fraud and any other criminal activities.

The members  said such behaviour portrayed by the President and  Secretary General jeopardised UNZASU's leadership and was below the standards of faithfulness of an UNZASU member.

"We have reason to fear because such behaviour if not immedietately dealt with might end up incriminating the entire union," they stated.

The executive members claimed that the UNZASU President and  Secretary General single sourced  three bidders for the lecture theater rehabilitation  contract without proper regard to procedure as agreed by the entire executive.

They have revealed that the contractor hired to work on the two lecture theaters was a close friend to the UNZASU president.

The executive members have since petitioned for the immediate suspension of the two leaders.   This was contained in a letter addressed to the UNZA Judiciary signed by UNZASU Publicity Secretary Hellen Zulu and UNZASU Academic Affairs Secretary Luke Simpemba.
