ACC ARRESTS PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER IN NAKONDE

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Nakonde district of Muchinga province has arrested a former Teacher of Ntindi Primary School of Nakonde for corrupt practices involving over K184, 000.

In a statement made available to the Lusaka Star, ACC Public Relations Manager, Timothy Moono said Catherine Nakamba aged 29, of Mukoma village in Nakonde has been charged with one count of uttering a false document contrary to section 352 and 347 of Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Moono said in the second count, Nakamba has been charged with obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences contrary to section 309 A, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He said particulars of the offence in the count of uttering a false document were that Nakamba on dates unknown but between 1st January 2012 and 31st January 2013 in Nakonde district of the Republic of Zambia, being a teacher employed in the Ministry of Education, did knowingly and fraudulently utter a false document namely a Primary Teacher’s Certificate no. 14288 to the District Education Board Secretary purporting that the said document was genuine when in fact was not.

The Public Relations Manager said particulars in the second count of obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences were that Nakamba on dates unknown but between 1st January 2012 and 31st January 2017 in Nakonde district, of the Republic of Zambia being a Teacher at Ntindi Primary School did dishonestly and with false pretences purport to have a Primary Teacher’s Certificate in order to be employed as a Teacher by the District Education Board Secretary under the Ministry of Education.

Mr Moono said she was employed by virtue of which she obtained a pecuniary advantage in form of salaries amounting to K 184,084.70 after tax.

Mr.Moono said Nakamba has since been released on police bond and would appear in court on June 29, this year.

The Teaching Service Commission Chairperson Starnely Mhango has  further cautioned teachers in the country to desist from having fake documents in a bid to get employed in the Ministry of Education.

Mr Moono said the Commission will not relent in scrutinizing all the teachers so that sanity prevails in the sector.
