Newly elected Zambia Women Media Association (ZAMWA) chairperson Felistus Chipako has called on all female Journalists in Zambia to be advocators of issues pertaining to their sex in order to promote women development in the country.

Ms. Chipeko was speaking when she featured on ZNBC’s Open Line programme, Monday, dubbed; ‘women in the media’.

She observed that if female journalists put pertness and jealous among them aside, and reported on matters that affected women in the society, change would be seen because most women would be knowledgeable.

“If us female journalists report and comment on our issues as females, most of the women can be interested to listen to their fellow woman talking about issues that affect them. As a result, most women will be encouraged to act upon these problems and we shall be seen as good role models in this country,” she said.

Meanwhile, government has been urged to exploit and maximize support towards community radio stations.

Munukayumbwa Mundia who is the board chairperson for Lukulu community radio station, under construction, noted that community radio stations provide citizens a platform to discuss issues affecting them and the nation at large.

The Lukulu radio project is a people centered project funded by Sweden and the European Union working hand in hand with Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia.
