University of Zambia Anti-Drug Abuse Activist has expressed concerns over the increased levels of drug abuse and trafficking among  youths in the country. Speaking in an interview with Lusaka star, Anti-Drug activist John Mulenga said  there has been an increase in drug abuse and trafficking among the youths in recent days which is likely to pose a great effect on the economy of the country.

The Zambia Competition Commission has put measures that will allow individual farmers to negotiate cotton prices. Cotton Board of Zambia (CBZ) Secretary Dafulin Kaonga said this will ensure that individual farmers negotiate the prices of cotton with individual ginneries. In an intreview with the Lusaka Star, Mr kaonga also said the depreciation of the Zambian currency, the Kwacha, will not affect the cotton prices significantly.

ZAMBIA Association of Musicians Secretary General James Chamanyazi says upcoming artistes cannot be blamed for vulgar lyrics because the media plays a major role by putting them in the lime light. Mr Chamanyazi said this has made unpleasant songs to be on high demand by listeners. He said desperation, lack of vision and the urge for 'bubble gum fame' has also contributed to the production of disgraceful songs.

The University Of Zambia (UNZA) management has warned gown traders to avoid duplicating the new patented graduation gowns. In an interview with Lusaka star, UNZA Public Relations officer Stanslous  Chewe said management has patented the graduation gowns to curb unauthorised reproduction. Mr Chewe said the general pattern of the undergraduate gowns has been changed and the official logo slightly altered.

Zambia Golf National Team captain has complained about the lack of funds to facilitate camping of the national team before tournaments. In an interview with Lusaka star, Mwalikwa Sondashi said the golfers only met a day before or during a tournament adding that funds were not provided to cater for their accommodation. “Accommodation is rarely paid for, so I call the golfers a day before a tournament and ask them to prepare and then we meet during the tournaments,” Sondashi said.

About 5000 students at the university of Zambia who were unable to register have been given a go ahead to sit for the mid-year examinations.  And the university of Zambia student union (UNZASU) vice president Kapambwe Fredrick said, the request which was filed to the management on 2nd February, 2014 has been approved. Kapambwe added that management has granted permission to unregistered students to sit for the mid-year examinations which cannot be tolerated during final examinations.

THE 2005 Zambian Charity Shield winners, Red Arrows F.C are ready for their forth-coming final clash against the MTN Super League Champions Nkana F.C in the Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu charity shield tie. The match which is slated for the 22nd of February this year will be hosted at Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe. In an interview with the Lusaka Star, Red Arrows team captain and recently crowned 2013 Zambian footballer of the year, Bronson Chama said the team was well prepared for the match.

THE University of Zambia (UNZA) Sports Council has disclosed plans of considering physically challenged people in sporting activities on campus. Currently at UNZA, the physically challenged people do not have sporting events such as basketball, table tennis, and athletics. And in an interview with the Lusaka star, University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) sports secretary Nasho Banda said the physically challenged people on campus had been neglected for many years with no sporting activities for them.

For many people it is difficult to identify and follow the path of their dreams. Well it is a different case for a promising music and video producer best known for the song ‘Pabondix’ Lloyd Chirwa. In an interview with the Lusaka star, Lloyd a third year student at the University of Zambia said he started singing when he was still at secondary school. Lloyd said he officially joined the music scene in 2009 when he became a member of the ‘Xample Yapa Zambia’ XYZ crew.
